Here’s a fascinating piece of Billy Idol’s later catalog that deserves more attention than it typically receives. *The Roadside EP* represents Idol at his most introspective, recorded during the pandemic lockdowns when the rock icon found himself, like the rest of us, contemplating life from a standstill. This five-track collection showcases a more mature songwriter while still delivering those signature sneering vocals and guitar-driven arrangements that made him a household name in the ’80s. The title track serves as both a literal and metaphorical journey, with Idol reflecting on decades in the music business over a surprisingly stripped-down musical backdrop.
