Here’s a fascinating piece of British rock history that deserves more recognition among collectors. Alan Price’s soundtrack to Lindsay Anderson’s surreal 1973 film “O Lucky Man!” represents a perfect marriage of cinematic ambition and musical craftsmanship. Price, the former Animals keyboardist who gave us that unforgettable organ riff on “House of the Rising Sun,” created something genuinely special here – a cohesive song cycle that works both as film accompaniment and standalone listening experience. The album features Price’s distinctive piano work and soulful vocals across tracks that range from the anthemic title song to more introspective pieces, all unified by his keen sense of melody and social commentary.
